What causes swirlmarks to get in a new clear coat paint job?

Using a blended fiber towel to dry the car off after a car wash, using a car wash with brushes, improper drying methods. What causes swirlmarks to get in a new clear coat paint job?
the car was most likely improperly buffed at the paint shop. uncured paints scratch easily and leave swirl marks. most shops only cover up scratches and not completely remove them. try contacting a 3m rep in your area and they can give you guidanceWhat causes swirlmarks to get in a new clear coat paint job?
dirt. either in the paint or on the cloth that you are polishing with. It can also be caused by using a buffer and digging it in too deep and burning the paint. A lot of swirl marks can be removed by using one of those erasers found at auto parts stores. good luck

  • Blonde moment...I put hallway/bedroom paint in the bathroom. Can I use a polyurethane clear coat to seal it?

I assume you mean you put a latex (water based) paint in the bathroom.

Don't worry, your fine. Do not seal it with Poly or you will create a maintenance problem,

As long as the latex paint does not get showered on with water constantly you are OK.

In the future I would recommend Latex....yes I said latex With 100% acrylic. It will dry fast, clean up easy and shed water beautifully.

yeah but it may not work, and it may give you shiny walls (if you use enough of it).

but the bedroom paint should do fine, unless you splash ALOT in the tub.Blonde moment...I put hallway/bedroom paint in the bathroom. Can I use a polyurethane clear coat to seal it?
i think that it will be ok..with that paint...i've done alot of painting in my life and i'v never used special paint for a bathroom and never had any trouble with it
The paint will be alright, I have the same paint in my bathroom as the bedroom and its fine even after 5 years.
Why don't you just buy the correct paint (high gloss or semi gloss) and just paint over it? For sure the correct paint will seal it and what paint is under it does not matter.
Best solution, if you like the color, get a quart or as needed of a semi-glass paint to cover the flat!
The better chose would be to repaint with semi- gloss or High- gloss paint. However semi- gloss is easier to paint over later without having to use a primer if you decide on a semi- gloss paint a few years later.
You will have to strip it and sand it. With all the moisture in the bathroom, it will grow mold and start cracking. Although the crack old look is a hit today.

What does that have to do with a blonde moment? Mistakes are made everyday; don't need to insult any one group for it.
definitely yes. do 2 coats for extra protection
Ask your local paint store, but I don't think thats a common practice... I wouldn't see how you would be able to paint over it without somehow sanding down all the walls!
The paint is not a problem. If it really bothers you, then buy a gloss or semi-gloss paint and repaint the bathroom.

I just painted my kitchen cabinets white can I put a clear coat of lacquer on them for a finish ?

or will it turn them yellow in time?I just painted my kitchen cabinets white can I put a clear coat of lacquer on them for a finish ?
Carolyn is correct. Lacquer shouldn't yellow the way oil-based poly does. If it' a latex paint you can spray water based clear poly over it also.I just painted my kitchen cabinets white can I put a clear coat of lacquer on them for a finish ?
yes you can use clear coat over your paint, make sure the coating is ok for the paint you used, ie water based paint needs a water based clear coat and oil based paint needs a oil based clear coat, and check the color of the clear coat itself it comes in tinted.

What is a safe way to get sap off my car without damaging the clear coat?

I bet WD-40 would work if you have can around..What is a safe way to get sap off my car without damaging the clear coat?
Try distilled vinegar and water. It always helped when I clean my car. If not try something from a auto store. Hope it helps. What is a safe way to get sap off my car without damaging the clear coat?
Bug and Tar remover. Apply fresh wax when done.
If its dried and hard on your car the surface might already be damaged... especially if in hot weather.

If your car is a late model try kerosene or if your careful laquer thinner will melt it right off.... but it will leave a dull mark which you can easily hand polish off with a clean cloth and a light cutting compound.

If its really bad you might need to clear the bulk of it off with a razor blade... no kidding! Put masking tape around the sharp corners of the blade and slice through the sap with the blade lying almost flat on the car.

What type of clear coat to use after I restore my BMW headlights and best way to apply it without problems?

The plastic covers are the worse. I am not aware of a sealant to prevent the return of the discoloration or ';fog';. You may need to use the cleaner and polish on a regular basis.
