Anybody ever try using something like that before?
Im guessing that youde have to put the first few coats on real light so as to not let the colors run.Anybody ever try automotive clear coat as a pastel fixative?
Cheap aerosol hairspray works. If you can fon the 99 cent aquanet , give it a whirl - thats whay I used in my starving artist student days in college. Good luck!Anybody ever try automotive clear coat as a pastel fixative?
Never use hairspray on something you might value in the future. It is not intended for art, nor is it archival. What is with this need for fixative? Most professional pastellists do not fix their finished works.

Clear coat is not made to be used on paper. Your pastel drawing will be just fine if you would cover it with a piece of tracing paper or glassine, taping the edges so it won't shift. Fixative only sets the pastel dust and isn't really expected to keep it from smudging entirely. and fixative will dull and darken your colors, as it fuses the particles that make your pastel work so bright and luminous.
