I am painting a outboard motor and I have already primed and painted the motor. It looks good but I want to add a clear coat. Do I wetsand one last time before I apply the clear coat or do I put the clear coat over the good paint finish?Do I wetsand one last time before applying clear coat?
to get better results I would sand before !Do I wetsand one last time before applying clear coat?
Pour water over the paint to see any really identifiable scratces from previous sanding...
if your gun was too far away you may have an eggshell effect, so you would remove the high spots...
It's not necessary to sand before you shoot clear, and on a motor I wouldn't bother personally!
Hope this helps.
???WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?your paint is dry already rite?if so,u definitely need to wet sand it!!!paint or clear sticks to nothing if it isn't sanded.u only need 600 grit sandpaper or scotchbrite.u dont sand if ur in the middle of painting.like 15minutes later only.take my advice i do this for a living!!!
if it has,nt been to long since you shot the base coat, no don,t sand it ,if its a metallic finish base coat you could ruin the base coat by sanding it ,if its a solid color you could nib it for dirt .before applying the clear
NO YOU DONT WET SAND THE PAINT JUST PUT THE CLEAR COAT ON I KNOW I OWN A BODY SHOP AND WE PAINT CARS AND THINGS ALL THE TIME I KNOW BUT NO YOU DONT WET SAND IT BEFORE YOU CLEAR COAT IT JUST GO AHEAD A CLEAR IT .
