How can I fix the clear coat that's peeling on my car?

I have an older car which has clear coat peeling on the hood and roof. Big time! I don't like driving it because it looks so bad. Can I sand it down and put some touch up paint on it? I know this isn't the right way to do it but I have no choice. I can't afford a paint job or a new car.I have done something similar to this before. I sanded down the rust and applied touch up paint. Didn't look bad for a quicky job. And my car looked alittle better. I could really use some suggestions to my problem. I can live with the rust but this peeling is very unapeeling! I hate to sound cheap so I'll let you in on my situation. I'm on disability due to Multiple Sclerosis. Living alone doesn't allow my budget to include a new car or paint job. So I need your help! I need to find a cheap way to make my ride more enjoyable! Any suggestions would be more than greatly appreciated! Thank you!How can I fix the clear coat that's peeling on my car?
In the body shop we use a new single edge razor blade.Push it gently underneath the edge of the peeling paint at a very sharp angle. That should remove most of it.The only way to make it nice again is to give it a hard sand and repaint. How can I fix the clear coat that's peeling on my car?
You have to repaint the car. You can often pick up some rattle cans of paint that match the color of your car. just sand the areas down. Mask things off and repaint it.
preparing a car for primer and paint is the key to a good paint job. first sand and prime, making it smoothe. 2nd remove all loose materials from surface with a tact cloth and a simple alcohol. temperature 70 degrees- 75 dregrees low humidity 55. spray paint on evenly. spray 2nd coat on, don't let paint dry between coates. give 15 min. spray a 3rd if needed.let dry 24- 36 hrs.
go to auto part store that deals in paint supplies and buy you some 1000 gpi wet sand paper and about 1 dozen paint stir sticks and wet sand the car anly removing clear coat use sand paper wrapped around sticks so it has a solid smooth surface and dont just use your hands as you will leave lines where your fingers applies pressure use stick and be sure to wet paper every minut or so that it doesnt scratch paint and apply even pressure and get you a rag and keep it wet so you can keep water flowing over sanding area.
