How can I remove scratches from the clear coat of my truck.?

I was carrying a plastic box past my truck when I accidently rubbed the box on my truck door as I was walking past. There was dirt on my truck and I think that is what made the actual scratches.How can I remove scratches from the clear coat of my truck.?
You can try to lightly rub it out with a polishing compound or a clay paint cleaning bar. i recommend the clay bar 1st.

If you have some understanding of a cars paint, hit u the local auto parts store and get some compound and then some polish. 3M or Meguir's is the best for retail market.





If this seems past your knowledge, hit up any body shop or detail shop and have them 2 stage buff the door for you. Shouldn't take more than 15 mins and about $45 at the most, detail shops probably would only charge $25 for the door.





Body shop might attempt to say it needs paint, etc. Simple scuff like you mentioned will not need painting, even if it lightly scratched through the paint. Anyone with high speed buffing experience can lightly melt the scratches back together so they only look like human hairs in the paint.
The clay bar and rubbing compound are fine, however, they both remove at least part of the clear coat, possibly causing long-term paint oxidation; but it's a good first step. Check first to see if just the clear coat was affected.


Next, use some Dupli-color clear coat that come in an absurdly small rattlecan. One shot will likely fix everything: the prework of polishing eliminates any sharp grooves or ridges, and neatly fill in any deeper damage. Mask off nearby panel 1';-2'; away with masking tape and newsprint.


Clear coat is easily found in larger cans- recommended if you expect future damage control. Use the best stuff you can afford.

I think you should let a body shop handle this one, if you have a really nice finish now (other than the scratch). They know what they're doing, they got the equipment and supplies, and they'll probably do it for $50 to $100. I would pay them no more than that. Let them do it. Some things you are better off just paying the pros, than doing yourself. Seriously.
