How do you know if your car has a clear coat?

Hi,

I have a 1996 V6 Firebird and I am doing some touch-up work on the paint of the bumpers. I have used Dupli-Color and have found a perfect match for the paint but I need to know if it also needs a clear coat. Is there a definitive way to know if a car has a clear coat. I think it does, but am uncertain. How do you know if your car has a clear coat?
that one is clear coat, anything gm built after 88 all had clear coat on them, one way to find out is take a little bit of compound, and rub a spot on it,if you don't get color its clear coat,gm has been using clear coat longer than some of the other auto makers they was using it back in the early 80,s.yours will be clear coat on that car, good luck with it.How do you know if your car has a clear coat?

All modern cars have a clear coat. Your car has clear coat. For clear coat, you do not want to use anything that comes out of a spray can. the quality is so different from car clearcoat that it will not help to use it at all.
They all have clear coat these days and you don't even have to pay extra for it! Comes straight from the factory that way.

See Fargo.... lol
Your car has clear coat, but not your bumpers, you should find a touch up made FOR bumpers, it has a flex additive in it..
All cars have clear coat from factory, its in the painting process. However, it most cases (due to age of the car) it may be peeling and needs to be redone.
