How to apply base coat clear coat automotive paint?

I just had my car painted with base coat clear coat paint. I have some items that I want to paint with the left-over paint. After prepping the metal by sanding, how do I proceed? Do I need to sand the base coat before I apply to clear top coat? What about sanding the clear coat and polishing that; how do I do it?How to apply base coat clear coat automotive paint?
