Can I use auto clear coat in a spray can to cover an area that has had the clear coat worn off on my door?

My truck was repainted about 6 months ago. The man that repainted it did not do a very good job. A few weeks ago I got stuck and flung mud all over my truck. When I cleaned it, I noticed an area that looked really plain, not shiny. To me it looks like the man that painted it used only one layer of clear coat and this area has warn off from mud rubbing against it. I was basically wondering if I did a really nice job of taping the door off, if I could use clear coat in a spray can from the local hardware store to re-clear coat my entire door. Would this look good, or is there particular clear coat that I should use? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Can I use auto clear coat in a spray can to cover an area that has had the clear coat worn off on my door?
Home-Depot has a can and or spray of Rust-oleum painters touch gloss crystal clear...its fast drying, non-yellowing, uv resitent and its for almost any surface it's about $9.00.. i used it on my pontiac grand am GT and it worked beautifully i re-coated my whole car with it...good luck! Can I use auto clear coat in a spray can to cover an area that has had the clear coat worn off on my door?
It would not be a good idea, chances are that it would turn yellow pretty quick.
try using polishing compound first then polish, see the results and then make your decision.
i would but it will never look the same as when you bought it
