I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue - I bought a 2008 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab, Dark Cherry Metallic. In the six months that I've owned the truck, I've been struggling with scratches in the clear coat. I always use a clean, soft terry cloth when washing it and I've never had issues with other vehicles. If you barely brush against this truck, there are visible scratches. Is the paint job faulty? Has anyone else had this issue? Why does the clear coat on my 08 silverado scratch easily? What is the best way to remove them?
Not all scratches can be fixed. As a rule, if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, it is generally not fixable. I use 3M Perfect-It Foam Polishing Glaze Swirlmark Remover and clean terry cloth towels to remove light scratches. Here's what you should do:
-Wash and dry your car
-Apply the 3M Perfect-It Foam Polishing Glaze Swirlmark Remover to a clean towel. Use a small amount, about the size of quarter. Use a back %26amp; forth motion when removing the scratch with moderate to heavy pressure. When the polish dries , stop buffing.
-Inspect your work. Repeat the process. After each application, review the scratched area carefully and look for improvement. Normally, if you are not seeing progress after three applications, you may want to consider a slightly more abrasive compound like 3M One Step Cleaner Wax.
-Once you're satisfied with the results, apply 2 coats of your favorite high quality wax. A good wax job will help prevent light scratches. Why does the clear coat on my 08 silverado scratch easily? What is the best way to remove them?
If you keep wax on the paint you usaually don't have that problem, wax it twice a year at the least and use microfiber cloths on it, to get the scratches out in the clearcoat you need a good orbital buffer and I use MeGuires detailing spray with the buffer and it works great on black.
